A research paper by a team of faculties of Dental Sciences, Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai has bagged a global award from European Federation of Periodontology.
The study showed that treating gum infections not only controls diabetic status but also controls an agent called AOPP that is responsible for diabetic complications.
The work, a virtual presentation, selected as the best from amongst eight presentations by different countries carries a trophy and a cash award of 10,000 for further research and presentation at the next EUROPERIO at London in 2015.
The research team consisted of Dr Akansha Grover, a PG dental student, Dr R Anjana, faculty, Dr R Suresh, Prof & HOD, Periodontology and Dr Krishna Seshadri, Prof & HOD, Endocrinology, Sri Ramachandra University.
