Gujarat Liqui Pharmacaps Pvt Ltd (GLPL), a Gujarat-based Pharmaceutical company, has entered into marketing tie-ups with the companies in Nigeria and Ghana for its newly launched anti-malarial formulations of Artemether, Artesunate and Amodiaquine in soft gelatine capsules.
“The first consignment of our Artemether formulations in softgel to Ghana is going within a fortnight. The second anti-malarial kit of Artesunate + Amodiaquine in soft gel is ready for Nigeria and Ghana,” J J Chaudhuri, director-operations, GLPL told Pharmabiz. However, he refused to name the companies.
The unique feature of the above drugs is that these are the only drugs recommended by World Health Organization as the best and only treatment against malaria caused by resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum, claims Chaudhuri.
GLPL, established in 2002, is presently distributing its formulations, mostly in soft gelatine form, in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. It is entering into other states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal soon.
GLPL’s product range includes— multi-vitamins, anti-bacterials, iron preparations, herbal formulations, nutritional supplements, cough& cold preparations etc.
GLPL, the Rs 15-crore company, has base in West Africa, East Africa and South East Asia and is now focusing towards Latin America.
While speaking about their future plannings, he said, “Our current and future activities in soft gelatin section would be to develop and commercialize those molecules and herbal extracts which have a clear edge in terms of bio-availability and purity over other dosage forms.”
Its R& D activities are basically on carrying out stability studies of new molecules in softgel and also existing molecules in soft gel. Apart from that GLPL also carry out experiments on the gelatin matrix to make the product more resistant to heat and humidity, informed Chaudhuri.
