GSK controls 29 per cent of combined sales of top 10 MNC pharma companies operating in the country, according to AC Nielsen ORG- MARG: MAT March '03. This should mean that out of the total top 10 MNC pharma sales of Rs. 3,732.6 crore, GSK controls a market worth Rs. 1,075.2 crore.
Moreover, out of the total domestic pharma market of Rs. 18,205.3 crore, top 10 MNCs control about 20.5 per cent (Rs. 3,732.6 crore). Among the top 10 MNCs, GSK is the topper with sales of Rs. 1,075.2 crore, controlling 5.91 per cent of the total domestic pharma market, Pfizer with sales of Rs. 623.8 crore (3.43 per cent) stands second, Abott with sales of Rs. 429.1 crore (2.36 per cent) stands third, Aventis with sales of Rs. 419.1 crore (2.30) stands fourth. The fifth position is gained by Novartis with sales of Rs. 353.7 crore and a market share of 1.94 per cent, Wyeth Lederle with sales of 259 crore (1.42 per cent) is at sixth position, Merck stands on seventh position with a sales of Rs. 238.8 crore (1.31 per cent), Astra Zeneca stands on eighth position with sales of 126.3 crore (0.69 per cent), Ethnor at ninth position with sales of Rs. 109.2 crore (0.60 per cent). The tenth position is gained by Organon with sales of Rs. 98.4 crore (0.4 per cent).
