The Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration has seized huge stock of 'Shobha's Pretty Gel' manufactured by Ahmedabad-based Shobha's Cosmetics (P) Ltd, from its premises. The FDCA team raided the premises and confiscated the stock under Drugs & Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act as the products carried the claim that it will reduce body weight and obesity.

The drugs control officials who raided the facility at G/F-8, Galaxy Complex, Near Grand Bhagwati, Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway, Ahmedabad, said that the stock valued about Rs.7 lakh. The product claims to reduce the body weight and obesity were claimed to contain ingredients like orange, lavender, line, lemon grass oil and aloevera gel.

The manufacturer has claimed on the insert of the product that "On properly massaged, it gets absorbed into the body and its unique formula works on the fat layers and dissolves the fat. The fat dissolved in this manner is then thrown out of the body through the excretory system of the body. Applying on the belly region will reduce the layers from the entire body. Initially fat is drained out of the stomach region and later from face, chest, arms and other parts."

Following the seizure, Dr SP Adeshara, commissioner and HG Koshia, jt commissioner, Food & Drugs Control Administration, Gujarat State, have requested to the general public at large not to use the above product as the product will not get any result as claimed by the manufacturer. "The necessary action against the manufacturer for contravening the Drugs & Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement)Act is under progress," the FDCA commissioner informed Pharmabiz.
