GVK BIO managing Director G V Sanjay Reddy, has announced the institution of GVK BIO Research Award for best research scholar in the area of drug discovery. The award will be given to the best scholar in the area of drug discovery every year. A panel will choose a scholar.

Inaugurating Bio symposium here on Friday, Sanjay Reddy said the GVK BIO would also host symposia every year to give a boost to science. The award, he said, was intended to encourage young scientists and lead India towards global power in the area of science. The GVK Bio was forging relationship with the community. It would conduct several community activities in coming year, he declared.

The symposium was held on the eve of opening of the "GVK BIO-Wyeth Hyderabad Chemistry Centre" in Hyderabad on Saturday. A galaxy of speakers addressed the delegates from various fields, including corporate research and academia.

Prof k C Nicolaou of Scripps Research Institute of the United States, was the keynote speaker. He focussed on chemical synthesis and chemical biology. Prof Gautam R Desiraju of University of Hyderabad, during his 60-minute address, dwelt on crystal engineering. Prof Barbara Imperiali of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr Vijay Nair of RRL Trivandrum, Prof John Porco of Boston University and Prof Goverdhan Mehta of IISC and others spoke.
