The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Haryana, accompanied by the state police, raided an unlicensed premise in Yamuna Nagar district of the state and seized spurious drugs worth Rs 1 lakh on December 2, 2003. The seized drugs carry brand names of leading companies like Norvartis, Alembic, Nicholas Piramal, Parke Davis, MJ Pharma, and Sarabhai etc. The police have registered a case and the accused have been arrested and remanded for three days.

Seven drug inspectors of Haryana participated in the raid. The drugs seized were chloromycetin suspension (Parke Davis), Quadriderm cream (Fulford), Voveran SR tablets (Novartis), Althrocin tablets 500mg & 250 mg (Alembic Ltd), Floxip Tablets 500 mg (Nicholas Piramal), Amoxycilin, Tetracyclinin (Adip Laboratories), Tidigesic inj (MJ Pharma) and Dicryspiacin (Sarabhai).

According to drug officials, the raid was conducted after months-long vigil on the activities of Brij Bhalla, a resident of the district. While the accused has a licensed retail outlet in Uttar Pradesh, his movements in Haryana were suspicious, officials informed.

“The preliminary investigations itself have shown that the drugs are spurious. Nine drugs were seized, eight samples taken”, Lalit Kumar Goel drugs inspector in charge of Yamuna Nagar district informed pharmabiz.com. The other drug officials who were part of the team are G.L. Singhal, ASDC, L.C. Mittal, SDI, Hissar, Parjinder Singh, DDI, Gurgaon, Raman Sharon, DDI Hissar, Adras Goel, DDI, Fatehabad, Dr. Manju Gupta, LMO, GH and Jagadhri.

It was found that some of the drugs tasted more like talcum powder than like medicine. Click here to view Table
