HCG’s CyberKnife offers patients new hope for the treatment of tumours, lesions
HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd (HCG), south Asia’s largest cancer care network using the CyberKnife, offers patients new hope for the treatment of tumours and lesions, including ones that previously have been diagnosed as inoperable or untreatable with existing technology. It is the first and the only robotic radiosurgery system designed to treat tumours including brain, spine, lung, liver and pancreas.
The oncology major gave a new lease of life to a four-year-old boy suffering from brain tumour by using the state of art advanced Robotic Radiosurgery -CyberKnife.
The parents of the child Animesh Maithy from Midnapore district of West Bengal had lost all hopes of saving their son from brain tumour. They were then referred to HCG and consulted professor G Killara, consultant, Radiation Oncologist, who recommended CyberKnife.
Bogged down by paucity of funds, the case was referred to Dr Ajaikumar B S, chairman, HCG, who looked into the urgency of undergoing this surgery to save the child and consented to treat the child free of cost. After the success of Robotic Radiosurgery, Animesh is leading a normal life.
CyberKnife uses state of the art real time guidance, similar to cruise missile technology to precisely target tumours anywhere in the body with pinpoint accuracy and delivers intense doses of radiation. The pinpoint accuracy allows HCG’s specialist team to treat even the most difficult to reach malignant or benign tumours, as well as abnormal tangles of blood vessels, while avoiding damage to surrounding healthy organs. The revolutionary new treatment destroys tumours without the need for invasive surgery, allowing the patient to go home immediately after treatment.
