HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd. (HCG), South Asia’s largest cancer care network, has opened the Centre for Women’s Health, India’s first exclusive centre for Women Health by women, for women, dedicated to the treatment of various cancer and cancer related diseases.
This initiative of HCG on the International Women’s Day observed on March 8 is part of its dedicated effort to reach out to women across all strata of society and create awareness on various cancer related diseases that women are likely to be affected & spread the message that early detection could go a long way in managing the disorder. Also for those identified with the disease and not amenable for complete cure, the oncology major is keen to make its mission of ‘living with cancer’ a reality with the support of HCG’s Centre for Women’s Health.
Dr Ajaikumar, chairman, HCG, said in a media interaction that various studies confirm that the world over, for all cancers combined, prevalence in women is higher than in men and the trend is true in the case of India also. Against this background, HCG is keen to strengthen healthcare service for women’s health, through prevention, early diagnosis and management.
We would work to collect, collate & monitor data better, carry out proactive research, to offer more systemic monitoring, disseminate information and try to break barriers that women face in protecting their health, he added.
Different types of cancer that afflict women include breast cancer, cervix cancer, ovarian cancer, oral cavity cancer, oesophageal cancer, thyroid cancer, endometrial cancer and blood cancer. Importantly cancer as a life style disease has evolved more rapidly over the last two decades than ever before and keeping with this trend incidence of gynaecological and breast cancer are the highest amongst all types of cancer, he said.
HCG, currently manages a network of 20 cancer centres across Asia. HCG focuses on cancer treatment centres, imaging & laboratory services and clinical trials & research services.
