Heritage Herbals, a 100-per cent export oriented ayurvedic drug manufacturing unit of the Krishnendu Ayurveda Specialty Hospital at Chingoli near Aalappuzha in Kerala, will soon start to export 40-odd traditional prescription Ayurvedic medicines to the middle east countries to cater to the requirements of the Ayurvedic treatment centres in that region.

Speaking to Pharmabiz, Dr C K Mohan Babu, and Dr C K Suresh Babu of Heritage Herbals said talks were in advanced stages with a few leading treatment centres and marketing agencies in the United Arab Emirates for large-scale export of traditional prescription medicines. Further, Krishnendu will provide training to the doctors and paramedics attached to the treatment centres and Ayurvedic parlors of leading hotel chains in that region.

Though many of the Middle East countries have numerous Ayurvedic treatment centres, most are finding it difficult to source quality medicines and basic raw materials required for the treatment process. This is mainly because of the stringent export and quality guidelines mandated by most of the Middle East countries. Currently, apart from the Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala and one or two other firms, none of the Ayurvedic drug manufacturers in Kerala are exporting to the Middle East, said Dr Mohan Babu.

At present, Heritage Herbals export 14 prescription medicines and a dozen odd specialty oils to the Middle East and a few medicines to Germany for the treatment process. The specialty oils include Rosana baby massage oil, Alo Win anti-dandruff oil, Softlax herbal laxative, Win Up hair growth stimulator, Winterlint anti-stress oil, heritage massage oil for smoothening the skin, Arthro pain relieving oil, Winterlint Junior oil for stress management and for improving memory and learning, Gynolint oil to remove stretch marks and scars, Shamla hair shampoo and Lanzer oil for erectile dysfunctions. Further, Heritage Herbals would son introduce Al Manjeza and Al Mohenned, two unique anti-hair falling oils in the overseas market, said Dr.Mohan Babu.

He said Heritage Herbals follow strict quality norms for manufacturing the drugs at its GMP certified factory at Chingoli. The firm has license to manufacture over 150 traditional prescription medicines, and caters only to the drug requirements of the hospitals under the group in the domestic market. A specialty of the firm is that it prepares medicines even for a single patient if the treatment process demands an exclusive medicine made in accordance to the tradition.

Dr.Mohan Babu said the 30-bedded Krishnendu Ayurveda Speciality Hospital gets numerous patients from different parts of the world, mainly USA, Germany and the Middle East.

Established in 1908 as Parpa Raja Vaidyasala by the late M C Kunjiraman Vaidyan, the treatment centre is popularly known as the Chingoli hospital. Kunjiraman Vaidyan's son late Vaidyakalanidhi Krishnan Vaidyan expanded the hospital and started another hospital by name Sree Ramakrishna Pharmacy. Both the hospitals, besides the Krishnendu Ayurveda Specialty Hospital and Heritage Herbals are run by the fourth generation, headed by a team of doctors under Dr.Suresh Babu and Dr.Mohan Babu.
