Hindustan Syringes and Medical Devices (HMD) will be participating in this year's MEDICA fair in Germany. Starting from November 21, 2001 to November 24, 2001, MEDICA is the world's largest medical goods and equipment fair attracting manufacturers, suppliers and distributors of medical equipments from across the globe. HMD will be looking at building up an effective distributor network for marketing its brands of medical equipments across Europe and USA.

Commenting on HMD's initiative to tap the global market for medical devices, Rajiv Nath, Joint Managing Director, HMD said, "In the past, we have been exporting 20 per cent of our products under our own brands and 80 per cent as O.E.M in markets such as the USA and Europe. We intend to reverse the equation. We will be concentrating on the high-value branded market and expect that our participation in the MEDICA fair will help us establish a strong distribution network for Europe and American."

MEDICA will provide HMD with an opportunity to demonstrate its latest technological developments and competitive strengths. The company is currently looking at increasing production capacities of its manufacturing plants and according to Rajiv Nath should provide the company the leverage to cope up with the increasing demand in the international markets as well as gear up to any increased orders.

Established in 1957, Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices Ltd is one of the world's largest manufacturers of Glass Syringes. With 7 highly automated plants at two different locations and nearly 1600 employees, HMD is also the market leader in India for disposable single use syringes. The company started manufacturing disposable syringes in 1986 and currently its products, Glassvan, Perfektum and Dispovan enjoy an undisputed market position. Other products of HMD include Scalpvan infusion set, Glassvan surgical blades and CATHY IV cannula. HMD is targeting 30 per cent sales growth over the next two years to become Rs 200 crore company by the year 2003.
