Hiranandani Hospital & IASM to hold meet on treatment of sports injuries from Jan 9 to 11 in Mumbai

Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, Hiranandani Orthopedic Medical Education (HOME) and the Indian Association of Sports Medicine (IASM) will jointly conduct IASM’s three day annual conference in Mumbai from January 9, 2015 on treatment of sports injuries.

With a focus on treatment and management of sports injuries, the conference aims to cater to the core teams of physicians, physical trainers, orthopedics and physiotherapists. More than 300 Indian doctors from the field of orthopaedics, physiotherapists and some of the eminent international faculties from USA, UK, Egypt will be participating in the conference to lead sessions on related topics.

The event will witness presence of some of the eminent doctors like Dr. Sanjay Desai, expert at arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery, Dr. Abhay Navelkar, arthroscopic surgeon, Dr. Jaspal Sandhu, orthopaedic and Dr. Mandeep Dhillon, orthopaedic.

Dr. Vijay Shetty, chairman of the Indian Sports Medicine Conference and orthopedic at Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital said “With an increased interest in sports and exercise in today’s era, sports injuries have become very common. Injuries sustained during sports or exercise can limit performance of sports person and prevent him from achieving full potential. The aim of the Indian Association of Sports Medicine annual conference is to provide a leading commentary and education on injury treatment and prevention to help sports enthusiasts to keep performing.”

The sessions will include topics related to drug testing and doping in sports, Brain mapping in sports, Sporting injuries in children and adolescents, Cardiac assessment of the athlete, Sports nutrition and hydration, Sports injuries and rehabilitation in wheel chair athletes, Psychological rehabilitation in sports. In its entirety the event will focus on varied areas of fitness that include injuries related to hip, knee, shoulder, ankle among others.

Sports medicine in India is fast becoming a very popular field for orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists and team physicians and many others. A number of treatment options are available under this discipline. With some major national and international sports events being launched and hosted in India such as Indian Super League, International Premier Tennis League, Champions Tennis league, Pro Kabaddi league, we can see that India is progressively advancing in the field of sports.
