HydroCision Inc, developer and manufacturer of fluidjet systems for surgical applications and Mitek, a division of Ethicon Inc, a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative medical devices used in surgical sports medicine, have entered into licensing and supply agreements. HydroCision has granted Mitek exclusive rights to its high-pressure fluidjet technology in the field of arthroscopic surgery and will supply capital and disposable products for the technology's application in this $350 million market.

Currently, the removal of fibrous tissue and bone are primarily conducted by using mechanical shavers and burrs. HydroCision's technology addresses these applications by using high-pressure jets of water to cut, sculpt or drill soft tissue and bone, leaving a smooth surface. This technology allows surgeons to remove tissue or bone in areas with limited access, without the generation of heat.

"Over the past three years we have continued to adapt and refine our fluidjet system to maximize the benefits of this technology to arthroscopists and their patients," said Donald Freeman, Jr., President and CEO of HydroCision. "We are delighted to have Mitek as our marketing partner in introducing this new technology to the sports medicine market on a global basis."

Mitek, a leader in surgical sports medicine and soft tissue repair, offers an array of surgical solutions that help address the challenges of today's joint repair. 'We are excited about the potential for this exclusive system to revolutionize arthroscopic tissue management," stated Rodrigo Bianchi, Worldwide President, Mitek. "This is another example of how Mitek, the leader in surgical shoulder repair, is dedicated to advancements in knee repair."
