Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM) has installed the novel Cytotron-device used to treat arthritis, tendonitis and cancer. The machine is currently undergoing clinical trials in Bangalore. The indigenously developed second prototype machine, which works on the principle of Rotational Field Quantum Magnetic Resonance (PFQMR) was designed and developed by the Institute of Aerospace Medicine and the Centre for Advanced Research and Development (CARD).

Wg. Cdr. VG Vasistha, professor and head of the department Radio-diagnostics, IAM, who headed the team that built the machine, said that Cytotron was the first ever non-invasive technique to treat osteoarthritis patients and few types of cancer. Now the IAM has applied for international patient for the technology.

Since July 2004, around 40 patients have been treated with the machine and the results have been encouraging. In fact, patients who came in for treatment with the non-invasive machine had no hopes for finding relief because of severe pain. With only three exposures the patients reported loss of pain and immense relief.

However, Wg. Cdr. Vasistha stated that the machine was being tested on a trial basis and only those who stop all treatment and cleared only for palliative care could be the ideal candidates for treatment with Cytotron.
