A day-long marketing and sales conference was held by Indian Drug Manufacturers' Association (IDMA) on November 22, 2017 in Mumbai.

The conference, themed “building and sustaining a ‘brand’ under the new Indian market dynamics”, witnessed overwhelming response from participants. This was the first marketing & sales conference in 2017 organized by marketing committee of IDMA.

The conference was attended by marketing & sales professionals from reputed pharmaceutical companies from Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.

The theme of the conference was very relevant to the current scenario of pharma sector which is facing regulatory actions like push for generic prescriptions, price controls, ban on fixed dose combinations, bio-availability & bio-equivalence studies, joint inspections by central & state authorities etc., to name a few.

Added to it department of pharmaceuticals has released new draft pharmaceutical policy 2017 which proposed to do away with lone licensing & P2P, to impose one molecule-one brand-one company-one price and mandatory Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practice (UCPMP). In this context of ever changing regulatory environment and policies building and sustaining a ‘Brand’ poses many challenges to sales and marketing professionals working in pharma sector. To address those challenges and evaluate opportunities we organized this marketing and sales conference, said a press note issued by IDMA.

The topics ‘Brand Management in the era of UCPMP guidelines: Ushering a new era of opportunities and challenges in Pharma marketing’, ‘Impact of GST on Pharmaceutical Sales Management & Effectiveness’, ‘Transform your Brand through Innovative Product development’, ‘How can a marketer help manage the New Product Development process efficiency?’ and ‘For new product pipelines, how can we leverage academics and research partners?’ were interestingly presented by eminent expert speakers Salil Kallianpur, Jasdeep Singh, Dr RK Sanghavi, Vivek Acharya and Dr. Vandana Patravale respectively. Prachi Athavale, AIOCD-AWACS presented new tools offered by AWACS on market research.

The conference concluded with a panel discussion witnessing participation by experts-- SR Vaidya, Ashish Daptiwale, Dr. Vandana Patravale, Vivek Acharya & Vinay Pinto.

In last two years Indian pharma industry is passing through the recession period, there are two factors which have largely affected our country's economics that is GST and demonitisation, equally pharma Industry has also faced major set backs in terms of profitability and growth.

The most recent conference of IDMA involving different pharma professional across countries was indeed a right step to discuss on various parameters of different brands marketed by several companies such as building a brand and sustaining it in Indian pharma dynamics, focus on regulatory aspects of brands such as bioequivalance, bioavailabilty, banned on FDC and developing innovative therapeutic option which are in pipeline.
