IIEMS floats subsidiary to market trauma care equipment in India

The Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Services (IIEMS), the Indian arm of the US based International Institute of Emergency Medical Services (IIMS), has floated a subsidiary company to market emergency and trauma care medical equipments in India.

The new subsidiary Trauma and Emergency Medical Products Private Ltd would supply state of the art NASCO certified trauma care and medical equipments like AED defibrillators, hospital mannequins for trauma care training and other hospital equipments like syringes to different hospitals and voluntary agencies in the field of trauma care in India, Lekha, Co-ordinator of IIEMS told Pharmabiz.

She said IIEMS, a non profit oriented organisation, has launched a mega programme in the country to train doctors, paramedics and general public on trauma and emergency medical care, in association with the Apollo Hospital Group. As part of this, IIEMS offers Basic Life Support (BLS) training to the public and professionals, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) programmes for the doctors and paramedics since July, 2003. All the courses have been approved and certified by the American Heart Association (AHA).

So far, the courses were conducted at Thiruvanathapuram Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Sciences, SUT Hospital, KIMS etc. in Kerala, PSG in Coimbatore and at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai and Delhi.

IIEMS is organizing a five-day training course at the Sree Narayana Memorial Hospital in Kollam from May 22, besides advanced level training for doctors and paramedics at Thiruvananthapuram and at other centres scheduled in the coming weeks.

She said IIEMS charges a fee of Rs.2950 for ACLS and Rs 3,000 for the BLS training, normally offered to a batch of 30 professionals. A faculty from USA headed by Dr.George Abraham, president of the IIEMS and director of the Community Hospital in Troi, USA conducts the classes. In addition to Dr.George Abraham, an AHA certified instructor, a team of professionals work for IIEMS to improve the quality of trauma and emergency medical care in India and abroad, said Lekha.
