Illicit medicines worth Rs 70 lakh seized

Medicines worth Rs 70 lakh have been seized by the Kalamboli police, following an FIR lodged by Nilesh Gandhi, drugs inspector, FDA, Raigad.

A tip was received from the Intelligence branch of FDA, headed by Sahay, senior IPS officer. The premises were raided jointly by FDA and police officers of Kalamboli Police Station. Gajendra Pannalal Patel, director of Vimal Warehousing Pvt Ltd, Transit Godown No 140, near Libra weigh bridge, Kalamboli, Panvel Taluka, Raigad District, has been arrested and has been granted police custody up to July 13.

Hugh stock of drugs of antiepileptic, antidiarhoeal, antacids, antibiotics, etc was found to be stored with out license as required under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The said drugs were to be exported and were manufactured by Acme formulations Pvt Ltd, Noble Drugs Ltd, Kare Labs Pvt Ltd, Abbott India Ltd., Oshin Laboratories Pvt Ltd, Baader Schulz Laboratories, etc. K D Wagh, PSI of Kalmaboli Police Station is further investigating the case.
