The Mumbai branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) felicitated four doctor-members from the Association on the occasion of Doctor’s Day, which was celebrated on July 1, 2003.
The annual event to commemorate the birth of eminent medical personality, Dr B C Roy was held at the P L Deshpande Auditorium at Dadar and had more than 200 members in attendance.
Of the four doctors who were felicitated include Dr. A P Patkar, former professor and head, department of psychiatry at B Y L Nair Hospital and H N Hospital; Dr. Ashok Mathure, gold medallist paediatric surgeon at Nanavati, Lilavati and Head of Peadiatric Department, B Y L Nair Hospital and College; Dr Sushil Munshi, eminent cardiologist and Padmashree recipient based at Jaslok Hospital and Dr. Geeta Koppikar, MD – Pathology, Dean and Professor and Head – department of microbiology at B Y L Nair College and Hospital. The recipients were presented with a memento (citation) and a shawl.
The IMA selects the candidates based on the following criteria; should be a member of the IMA; should have earned awards/laurels/achievements during his tenure of practice; and should have served and contributed significantly as a teacher and doctor to co-members and to the community.
