On the eve of International Women’s Day 2013, Indian Medical Association (IMA), New Delhi recently organised conference on “Women Health and Empowerment” wherein leading health experts and social activists came together for stopping the marginalisation of women and asked women to fight for their empowerment and to lead a healthy life.

The conference was jointly organised by Forum for Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), a global organisation and Femina Features.

For the first time, leading health experts including former Asian marathon champion Sunita Godara, breast cancer expert Dr. Sidharth Sahni, Minimal Access Surgery expert Dr Arun Prasad, leading Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. (Prof) Raju Vaishya, Nutrition Expert Dr. Pallavi Vaishya and Health Administrator Dr Ruchika Goel came together and briefed about women's health and to fight for their empowerment.

On this occasion, the organisers of the event announced their plan to launch two websites namely www.feminalive.com & www.sehatlive.com, which will provide a platform for the doctors and women at large to interact and discuss their health issues and take necessary steps for a healthier tomorrow.

“Our initiative to hold this conference is aimed at empowering women and to help them to actively participate in the process of health care. It will help bridge the gap between doctors and patients in the long run,” said Vinod Viplav, prominent health communicator and president of Forum for Inculcation of Rational & Scientific Temperament (FIRST).

"The life of Indian women is very much marginalised. They will get a better life only when they will speak up and use their voting power. Women's health and safety are interconnected. But for lot of women, health comes last in the priority list,” said Sunita Godara, Fitness Experts and former Asian Marathon Winner.
