IN-XS, a Bangalore-based anti-aging and anti-obesity clinic, has introduced carboxy pen therapy, a US FDA approved treatment modality for fat reduction. Carboxy pen therapy is safe, simple, painless and an effective procedure for chronic obesity.

Dr Keerthi Patel and Dr Sangeetha Patel will provide the treatment. A precise and minute dosage of carbon-dioxide is transmitted via a thin 13 mm 30 gauge needle mounted on a carboxy pen. According to IN-XS, the therapy is offered for the first time in the country.
The therapy is also recommended for hyperlipodystrophy, a condition where fat cells lose their honey comb appearance, becomes multi nuclei constricting blood vessels and clogging the lymphatic drainage. When such a condition exists in the abdominal area it is medically dangerous as it is difficult to shed fat and would lead to many diseases, explained Dr Keerthi Patel.

The therapy does not cause fat embolism. When carbon-dioxide is delivered into the body through the needle it causes lysis of fat cells and enhances vasodilation and lymphatic clearance. The effect makes it ideal to treat localized fatty deposits on any part of the body, particularly the abdomen, hips and thighs. The results are seen within six sessions, informed Dr Sangeetha Patel.

"Obesity is a growing problem in the country resulting out of unhealthy lifestyles and food habits. The carboxy pen therapy is the need of the hour as it is a medical solution to obesity, " stated Karnataka minister for health and family welfare who was present at the launch.

According to Dr Prabhudev, cardiothoracic surgeon and former director, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, obesity is a silent killer causing cardiac disorders, hypertension and diabetes. It is considered a serious medical condition. "The two doctors from IN-XS are equipped to handle patients with any cardiac complications," he added.

Both the doctors were trained under Dr Gustavo Leibaschoff, an international expert on carboxy therapy. They will now jointly impart training on carboxy pen therapy to doctors in the country who could use the therapy in clinics, hospitals and cardio-fitness gyms. To begin with, training is scheduled at Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.

Carboxy pen therapy was founded in France and is gaining popularity in the US and Europe as an effective treatment for obesity.
