India to be global sourcing base for Eastman Kodak's Health Imaging division

Eastman Kodak is peeving plans to make India as a strategic base for its health imaging division, according to Dan Kerpelman, President -Health Imaging and Senior Vice President of the company. According to him, the company's goal is just not to be a domestic player but to develop India into a global source for health imaging division by leveraging on its existing base in the country.

Globally, the health imaging division had a turnover of US$ 2.3 billion last year. The company has identified the division to be the growth engine.

As a prelude to making India a strategic base, the company is now looking at revamping the software engineering operations in the country. This may be further extended to manufacturing of health imaging products in the country. The company is also in the process of evaluating its option for the manufacture of health imaging hardware.

Kerpelman maintained that the company is looking at computer radiography products as focus for the Indian market. The company is also working on bringing the digital radiography technology into the Indian market in the next couple of years. "A number of such products will be introduced over the next several months. Web based imaging systems, teleradiology and picture archiving and communication system (PACS) are the other imaging technology that the company plans to introduce in the country in the near future," informed Kerpelman.

The company will work on improving the service network and the growth of service partners. The Imaging Division is also in the process of increasing the size of its after sales support team , according to Kerpelman, who further added that the company's marketing efforts will be focused on educational activities for health imaging professionals.
