Suryadevara Pratap, a lecturer teaching pharmacy at G Pulla Reddy College of Pharmacy, Hyderabad, has been awarded this rear’s ‘Young Pharmaceutical Scientist Award’ by the International Pharmaceutical Federation, Netherlands. He is the first Indian to get this award. The award for Professional Innovation will be presented at the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences which will be held at Sydney from September 4 to 9. He was selected for the award for developing and implementing a project titled, ‘ My Nutrition for My Health – a Self-Assessment Technique for Global Health.
The project aims to find solutions to extra-nutritional requirements of the individual, according to Dr B Madhava Reddy, the college principal. The award includes to & fro flight tickets, accommodation and free registration to the conference and 1,000 Euros (Rs 50,000) for implementing the project.
Pratap has written a book ‘Next Step in Pharmacy Education,’ highlighting the higher education opportunities for pharmacy students. Last year he received an international travel scholarship from the International Pharmaceutical Federation for attending the World Pharmacy Conference in France.
