The department of Urology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is organizing a “Live international workshop on Holmium Laser in Endourology”. The workshop is to be attended by 250 urologists from across the country.

The faculty of the session includes international experts like Dr Peter Gilling, New Zealand, Dr Michael Grasso, Dr David Albala, Dr Akhil Das, USA and Dr Jens Rassweiler and Dr Andreas Gross from Germany. The experts would demonstrate a variety of operative techniques like by Holmium Laser covering various endourological procedures.

Announcing this at a press conference, Dr Narmada P Gupta, Professor & Head, Department of Urology AIIMS said that Indian urologists would find this occasion rewarding as they will understand the utility of the technique in Indian conditions and also find out ways of cost effective management.

A book titled “Holmium Laser – Endouological Applications” and a CD of different procedures performed at the AIIMS will be released on the occasion.

Dr A K Walia, minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi will be the chief guest at the inaugural function. Prof Sarinder Man Singh, founder chairman of the department of Urology at AIIMS will be felicitated on his 75th birth anniversary on the occasion, Dr Gupta said.

The Holmium laser has been in use in the specialty of Urology since 1996-97. It is in use in India since last three years. In AIIMS, Holmium laser machine was installed last year and more than 150 procedures have been performed successfully, Dr Gupta informed.
