The Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), the largest national professional body of pharmacists in the country, is planning to conduct a conference on transdermal and topical delivery of dermaceutical and cosmeceutical products on December 9 and 10.
The conference, the first of its kind on the dermaceutical sector in the country, will be conducted in association with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and the Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology of Japan (APSTJ), according to S D Joag, general secretary, IPA.
Sessions on regulatory and legal requirements, formulation of transdermal delivery systems, formulation of topical delivery systems and non-invasive technique for evaluating product efficacy will act as a platform for the companies in the derma and cosmeceuticals areas to interact with the global and Indian experts in the growing field, he added.
"The dermaceuticals and cosmeceuticals industry have a vast opportunity in a country like India with such a huge population. However, the Indian companies are yet to take more attention to their field as an organised segment of the industry. This seminar is to create an in-depth insight for the Indian players to know more about this growing field, expecially into the formulation part according to skin types and unique methodologies to test them," said S R Vaidya, member, organising committee of the seminar titled as 'To and Thru the Skin'.
Almost 12 international experts on dermaceuticals and cosmeceuticals segment have already agreed to present their views on the subject, informed Vaidya. Dr Howard I Maibach, secretary - Scientific Committee, FIP will present the key note address in the seminar on dermaceutical, over the counter (OTC), cosmeceutical and transdermal dosage forms. Vinod P Shah, scientific secretary, FIP will deliver his views on the regulatory requirements for transdermal and Dr Johann Wiechers, president, International Federation of Society of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) will explain the formulation part of the derma and cosmeceutical products for better efficacy.
Further, Mitsuru Hashida from Kyoto University, Japan and Aki Immomem, Delfin Technologies, Finland, will deliver their presentations on 'theoretical analysis and design of dermal delivery based on a diffusion model' and non-invasive techniques for measuring skin moisture and dipper tissue fluids' respectively.
The conference is expected to benefit the clinical, R&D professionals along with all formulation professionals, cosmeceutical chemists and the companies which have their interest in transdermal and cosmeceutical market both in India and overseas countries, added the IPA officials.
