Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Mysore, gears up to highlight the importance of pharmacists in the healthcare sector. A slew of initiatives like blood donation camp and presenting the Aushada Ratna Awards to eminent pharmacists underlined the indispensability of pharmacists in patient care.
During the National Pharmacy Week celebrations 2016, which was held in early this month at Mysuru, acknowledged the contributions of pharmacists. There was also an inter-college competition – INITIUM 2016 organized at JSS College of Pharmacy, in the city.
To spread awareness among the public about pharmacy, a dedicated rally was organized, where around 1000 participants represented various pharmacy colleges and other associations in Mysuru.
Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, president, Indian Medical Association, Mysuru branch was the chief guest. Dr. B. Suresh, president, Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi and Vice Chancellor, Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University, Mysuru spoke on need to empower pharmacists. To recognize the contributions of pharmacists, Aushada Ratna Awards were presented for the first time in Mysore in three categories: Narayana Raghavan, proprietor, Raghulal & Company, Mysuru won it for community pharmacy. P.V. Rajendra, pharmacist, District Health Office, Mysuru received the award in the category of Hospital pharmacy. Dr Gurumurthy Parthasarathi, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru was winner in the academic category.
