The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission has finalised necessary amendments and corrections in respect of some of the monographs in the Indian Pharmacopoeia 2007, based on the suggestions from different stakeholders.

The proposed amendments, as cited by different experts, have been intimated to all the State drug controllers, drug laboratories and other stakeholders like IDMA, OPPI, BDMA and small scale associations, sources said. The amendments, being incorporated in a separate list now, would be later included in the Addendum 2008.

The IPC, in a formal letter, has also informed all stakeholders that the IP 2007 would be made effective only from July 1 to help the drug makers to take more time to adopt the latest standard setting document.

"The prescribed effective date of Indian Pharmacopoeia 2007 is April 1, 2008. But, some of the stakeholders expressed their inability to implement IP 2007 from the prescribed effective date. The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission in consultation with Drug Regulatory and other concerned authorities has agreed to extend the date of implementation of IP 2007 from July 1, 2008,'' the letter said.

The IP 2007 had been formally launched in all parts of the country and was received well by the stakeholders. Special efforts were also being taken to curb the piracy of the document.

The fifth edition of the Pharmacopoeia has many unique new features and is prepared in a user-friendly format. Published in three volumes, it has over 1600 monographs.
