Ipca Laboratories net jumps by 38% in Q3 with lower forex loss

Ipca Laboratories, a Rs.2,300 crore pharma major from Mumbai, has posted satisfactory performance during the third quarter ended December 2012 due to lower foreign exchange loss. Its net profit moved up by 37.5 per cent to Rs.87.89 crore from Rs.63.93 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The company incurred a foreign exchange loss of Rs.18.58 crore as compared to Rs.39.88 crore in the last period. Its EBDITA improved by 5.1 per cent to Rs.162.35 core from Rs.154.53 crore. The earnings per share worked out to Rs.6.97 as against Rs.5.09 in the last period.

The company's net sales went up by 15.1 per cent to Rs.692 crore from Rs.602 crore in the similar quarter of last year. The formulations exports increased by 10 per cent to Rs.317 crore from Rs.290 crore and its domestic sales moved up by 13 per cent to Rs.212.73 crore from Rs.187.58 crore. Similarly, is domestic API revenues improved by 12 per cent to Rs.37.31 core from Rs.33.24 crore and its APIs exports improved by 37 per cent to Rs.124.91 crore from Rs.91.13 crore.

For the nine months period ended December 2012, Ipca's net sales increased by 19.1 per cent to Rs.2,080 crore from Rs.1,746 crore in the similar period of last year. Its net profit went up by 25.5 per cent to Rs.256 crore from Rs.204 crore. Its earnings per share improved to Rs.20.29 from Rs.16.19 in the last period. Its foreign exchange loss amounted to Rs.71.05 crore as compared to Rs.57.93 crore. The domestic formulation sales improved by 16 per cent to Rs.700 crore from Rs.606 crore and its exports also improved by 16 per cent to Rs.881 crore from Rs.757 crore. However, its domestic sales of APIs declined marginally by 2 per cent to Rs.107 crore from Rs.110 crore and that from exports improved sharply by 43 per cent to Rs.393 crore from Rs.274 crore.

The company included figures of Tonira Pharma Ltd during the third quarter and nine months ended December 2012 on account of amalgamation.
