IPM achieves positive growth of 6.8% in Nov'08: ORG IMS

ORG IMS, the world's leading solution provider to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, has announced the market reflections for the month of November, based on their Secondary Sales Audit. According to the new reflections the value growth of IPM for the month of November 2008 improved by 6.8 per cent to Rs 2893 crore and the growth for the full year (Dec-Nov 2008) worked out to 10.3 per cent to Rs. 33,769 crore.

For the last two months, the industry has recorded relatively lower growth rates, although the month of November has seen a change in the positive direction. One of the reasons for the growths in the recent months can be attributed to the relatively lower contribution of bonus offer units to the overall sales as compared to the last year. The growth in this component has picked up in the month of November as compared to October however remains lower to the same period last year. The trend is in line to the estimates of primary sales as recorded by ORG IMS.

The reflections showed some significant change among the top 20 companies in month of November 2008 as compare to October 2008. Abbott has moved up to rank 12, Torrent gained two ranks and has moved up to rank 14 and Dr. Reddy climbed up to rank 16, there was no change observed in the ranking of top ten companies.

ORG IMS reflections captured some major movers and shakers when it came to products. In the month of November 2008, Corex remains at numero Uno position. Phensedyl cough has gained one rank and has moved up to rank 2. Augmentin (rank 5), Asthalin (rank 10) and Revital (rank 13) have gained four ranks each, as compared to the month of October 2008. Mox has moved up from rank 11 as per October 2008 to rank 6 as per November 2008. Azithral is the new entrant among the top 20 products at rank 17, having gained 8 ranks as per ranking in the month of October 2008. Seroflo is the other new entrant at rank 20, having gained three ranks as per October 2008.

According to the reflections anti-infective and respiratory have recorded lower growths in the month of November as compared to the overall industry and are responsible for pulling down growths this month.
