The second day of the 9th National Congress of Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) organised jointly by the Indian Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society and `LIFE' Dr Gada Research Centre, was dedicated to discussions on different treatment regimens in Assisted Reproductive techniques (ART).
The delegates discussed the role of aromatase inhibitors, letrazole, rosiglitazone/ metformin/ letrazole combination in ovulation induction and compared leuprolide acetate and HCG for induction of ovum in women undergoing ovarian stimulation, among others.
The Dr B N Junhalwala Memorial Oration was delivered by Dr Stuart Campbell (UK) on `Newer techniques in ultrasounds and their use in management of infertility'. He highlighted the 3-D and 4-D devices, angiography and plain sonography techniques, which have propelled the developments in ART and have substantially reduced the treatment cost.
The keynote address of the day was delivered by Dr Peter Brinsden (UK) on `Is there a better ovarian stimulation protocol?' he discussed the advances in drug development in ART, after the birth of the first IVF baby, Louise Brown, 25 years ago.
The delegates also discussed the role of recombinant follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and LH.
