ISRO signs MoU with AP Govt to establish telemedicine network

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Andhra Pradesh Government have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for establishing telemedicine network in the state.

As per the agreement, ISRO would provide satellite bandwidth for an initial period of two years. The network would be set up in two phases in AP, with the first phase covering Osmania General Hospital, Nizam's Institute of Medical sciences, MNJ Institute of Oncology and LV Prasad Eye Institute.

These hospitals will further be connected to district hospitals in the state. The ISRO has developed satellite communication based telemedicine programme and has collaborated with AP Govt following the latter's appeal to create such network.

ISRO has set up 165 nodes, connecting 132 remote hospitals with 33 specialty hospitals in States like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
