Journal of Parasitic Diseases released from NIPER

Journal of Parasitic Diseases, an official organ of Indian Society for Parasitology, in a new style and format, was released at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), S A S Nagar. The Chief Guest of the function Prof. Nancy Malla, Past Editor-in-Chief of the journal, released the new version of the journal. Several renowned Prof., Scientists and researchers from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Panjab University and Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh, working in the field of parasitology, participated in the function.

In her address, Prof. Malla spoke her experiences with Journal and its role in shaping the future of parasitology in the country. Prof. Malla thanked to the members of, her earlier Editorial Board, and wished the Journal and the New Editor-in-Chief, all the success.

On the occasion, Prof. P. Rama Rao, Director, NIPER, welcomed the participants and informed them about the institute and its various activities. Two parasitic diseases viz. Malaria and Leishmaniasis, which are our National Health Problems, are Thrust Area research programmes at NIPER. The publication of Journal of Parasitic Diseases from NIPER is in line with its National Character and affirms the commitment of the Institute to solving our parasitological health problems, the diseases of the poor.

Professor Prati Pal Singh, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Parasitic Diseases, in his introductory remarks informed that the journal is the official organ of the Indian Society for Parasitology, and is the only leading field journal in the country devoted specifically to parasitology. The journal was started as "Indian Journal of Parasitology" in 1976. Parasitic diseases like malaria, leishmaniasis, amoebiasis and filariasis are the major public health problems in our country, and cause tremendous health problems and death. The Journal, through its high standards, will continue to serve as an excellent vehicle for the dissemination of important scientific research findings. The Journal intends to make strong impact on the conduct of the theory and practice of parasitology in the country.
