Abbott Laboratories' Ross Products Division has added Juven to its line of nutritional products. Based on a patented blend of three key ingredients – arginine, glutamine and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutarate (HMB) – Juven is clinically shown to help reduce muscle breakdown and rebuild muscle tissue. Juven is especially designed for people with cancer, HIV/AIDS or wounds/pressure ulcers.

" Juven targets the metabolic problems underlying loss of muscle or lean body mass," said Jeffrey E. Salon, medical director of adult nutritionals for Ross Products Division. " Juven has been clinically shown to help replete muscle and spare degradation of muscle and other tissue proteins."

Helping the body minimize loss of lean body mass is important to patients. Even a 5 per cent body weight loss is associated with reduced response to treatment among people with cancer. Loss of body mass also has been associated with accelerated disease progression and increased mortality among HIV/AIDS patients, and with poor healing of pressure ulcers and other wounds.

Based on a patented blend of three key ingredients – arginine, glutamine, and HMB – Juven offers patients a clinically demonstrated way to help reduce muscle breakdown and rebuild muscle tissue. Its three ingredients work together to address the metabolic problems associated with the loss of lean body mass (muscle catabolism). The catabolic process increases muscle breakdown and diminishes appetite, which can result in the body using protein from muscle to provide needed nutrients and energy.

Juven is available in single-serving powder packets, in pleasant-tasting orange and grape flavors. It can be mixed with water. It is designed for use under medical supervision and for best results should be taken twice daily with meals, as part of a complete, balanced diet.
