K C Ajith Kumar, secretary of Kerala Government Pharmacist Association, has been elected the new president of the Kerala State Pharmacy Council (KSPC). Kumar has vast experience in the field of pharmacy and is involved in various social welfare activities. Besides, he was also involved in chalking out plans to improvise the pharmacy education and pharmacy profession in Kerala.
The KSPC will hold a two-day National Pharmacy Seminar in Calicut during the last week of October. During the occasion the foundation stone of the proposed M N VG Adiyodi college of Pharmaceutical Sciences would also be laid. Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss is expected to be the chief guest.
Speaking to Pharmabiz, Ajith Kumar said that KSPC was planning to improvise pharmacy education in the state by strengthening the practical training given to the pharmacy students. According to him the practical aspect needed more attention.
"For the pharmacy student the practical training that is given to him in the final year of his course is of great importance. In Kerala this has to be improved and strengthened for providing good and purposeful service to the people," Kumar said.
He said that KSPC was also planning to set up a pharmacist oriented drug information center in the state. The place and investment will be decided during the executive body meeting to be held in the coming weeks. The information center will play a pivotal role in clearing the doubts of the pharmacist pertaining to drugs, thereby providing quality service to the public.
"The Government of Kerala with the support of WHO is already coming out with a drug information center in Trivandrum Medical College. So we thought of having ours as pharmacist oriented. It will help all the medical shops in Kerala in providing better service to its customers," he said.
