A new office for Kemin Pharma, a division of Kemin Industries, will be opened in Chennai on September 22. The office will be inaugurated by Dr. Keith A Bostian, president, Kemin Pharma, Belgium at 'The Trapezium' in Aminijikara, near Chennai.

Kemin Pharma was founded in Jan 2001in Belgium as a division of Kemin Industries, a privately held corporation headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa (USA).

While interacting with Pharmabiz, D.Ahmed Meeran, associate manager - regulatory affairs, said the company conducts researches that discover new unique scientific concepts which lead to fundamental different molecules with different modes of action that can address strong current medical unmet needs in the area of anti-infectives.

"Kemin molecules are fundamentally different from those currently marketed or researched by the pharmaceutical industry. Anti-infective molecules are developed by the use of latest technologies such as High Throughput Screening, proteomics and glycomics", he said.

He said the kemin molecules have a distinct 3-D structure and can contain several chiral centres. The scientists of the company are also distinctive. With the unparalleled expertise of the scientists in organic chemistry, the company can produce these compounds in an enantiomeric pure form.

Kemin's molecules are in various stages of Clinical trials and the pharma company conducts clinical research on its biotherapeutic on the indications such as clostridium difficle associated diarrhoea, and chronic GI diseases like ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome. Further it conducts clinical research on hepatitis C caused by cytomegalo virus.
