Belgaum-based KLE University’s College of Pharmacy organized a one-day International Symposium on “Health & Drug Policy Evaluation” on September 12, 2011.  The key objective of the event was to  impart  knowledge and create  a platform for health policy.

There was a good response not only from international speakers but participation from across the country including  Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Haryana.

Agathe Wehrli, Pharmabridge coordinator (FIP), Switzerland was the chief guest who in her inaugural address  spoke about the opportunities for young pharmacists and also mentioned about the activities of pharmabridge (FIP).

In his presidential address,  Dr F V Manvi, President of the Symposium and Dean Faculty of Pharmacy, KLE University said that the  current requirements for pharmacy professionals. There is a huge impact of health economics in India.

Dr Jeffery A Goad, University of Southern California, Los Angeles spoke about the role of community pharmacist and also inculcation of clinical activities in community setup. Prof. M S Ganachari, Organizing Secretary spoke about the National Health Policy, acceptance and implementation in Indian Scenario.

Prof Sunitha C Srinivas, Professor, Rhodes University, South Africa spoke on National Pharmaceutical Policy, current trends, equity, accessibility of essential medicines and role of stake holders in framing National Pharmaceutical Policies.

There was also a panel discussion on the  cost effectiveness and healthcare outcomes led by Dr. Priya Gandigawad  and Tarun Wadhwa, Convener of the event and Assistant Professor & CRC, Department of Pharmacy Practice, KLE College of Pharmacy.
