Mumbai-based Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital recently performed the fastest 50 robotic surgeries in 70 days, giving a new lease of life to the patients with greater precision and safety. The procedure has enhanced precision and safety leading to considerably low amount of blood loss as well as better recovery.

Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital is the only centre for multi-organ specialisation in robotic surgery in India, where the surgeon can see the area being operated on more clearly during this type of surgery. Dr T B Yuvaraja, consultant uro-oncologist, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, informed that in robotic surgeries, surgeons perform the operations with the help of a computer that remotely controls small instruments attached to a robot.

Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital is the first hospital in Mumbai to conduct rare surgeries using the robotic technology, including robotic adrenalectomy (adrenal gland tumour), robotic anterior exenteration (urinary bladder cancer in females), robotic radical cystectomy (urinary bladder, creating a new bladder in same position), video Endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (lymph nodes removal from groin in case of penile cancer), sacrocolpopexy (repair pelvic prolapse), and robotic surgery for endometriosis.”

Dr Anshumala Shukla-Kulkarni, medical director gynaecology and obstetrics, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital further informed that the robotic technology for surgery is in the pipeline at the hospital for several other fields such as ENT, head-neck; colorectal; liver and cardiac as well.
