Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute, India's newest and most advanced tertiary care facility launched the 'Total Parkinson's Disease Care Programme' today.

This programme, the first of its kind in the country, will focus on providing maximum benefit to the patient during a single visit to the hospital. The programme will allow a patient under this programme to visit the movement disorder expert, the rehabilitation expert, the psychologist and other experts depending upon the nature of the disease. A typical patient will spend half a day at the Kokilaben Hospital under the Total Parkinson's Disease Care Programme. To reach to a larger population, the programme has lower overall cost and is available three times in a week.

"A vision to strengthen healthcare in the communities we serve and empower patients to make informed choices was the genesis of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical research Institute. Our aim is clear: to build not just a hospital but an organic entity, an institution that offers comprehensive healthcare services under one roof, creating a platform for transparent patient-centric care where every life, indeed, matters," said Tina Ambani, chairperson, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

Research shows that the Parkinson's disease (PD) afflicts 1 per cent of the adult population often in the prime of their working life. The prevalence of PD in the western world is 120 per 100,000 while in India the prevalence is about 50 per 100,000. The common age of onset of symptoms is early 60's but it can affect a person at ages less than 40 years which is called Young Onset Parkinson's Disease or YOPD.

"We are excited to offer our patients the specialised and advanced hospital care with the best equipment to deliver the most accurate surgical results and we are the only hospital in Mumbai to have the Intraoperative MR scanner, a machine that can take MR images of the brain in the operation theatre while the surgery is in progress," said Dr Mohit Bhatt, consultant and head Neurology, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

The Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital plans to announce similar initiatives around other diseases. Going forward the company aims to be a global healthcare institution that combines the best in medical treatment with strong ethical principles and a culture of care and compassion.
