L V Prasad Eye Institute signs MoU with NTR Memorial Trust to provide blood free of cost
L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NTR Memorial Trust to provide blood free of cost to poor patients.
With this agreement, the non paying patients at LVPEI will get blood free of cost. The NTR Memorial Trust is a Public Trust with is aimed at creating empowered and self reliant society through socio-economic development. With this agreement, the NTR Memorial trust will provide blood to LVPEI as per the requirement.
The MoU was signed in Hyderabad at a meeting attended by Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, managing trustee of the NTR Memorial Trust. Dr Chukka Kondaiah, CEO of the Trust, Dr Gullapalli N Rao, chair and founder of LVPEI, and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
Under this initiative, the non-paying patients at LVPEI will be provided blood free of cost. This programme will be replicated in all other LVPEI locations, once the systems and processes are in place at LVPEI’s Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad.
The identified team at LVPEI will lead the initiative to conduct three to four blood donation camps in a year at the LVPEI campus by motivating all the employees at LVPEI to participate and donate. The aim is to mobilize at least 600 units of blood through these camps in a year and the first camp is scheduled to be held this month. The Blood Bank will provide the required infrastructure to conduct such camps at LVPEI premises periodically.
The trust started its first Blood Bank in Hyderabad in 2008 and was the first stand alone Blood Bank in the country to have NABH Accreditation along with ISO-9000 Certification. Over the years, it has expanded its reach and now with its association with LVPEI, the Eye Institute is equipped to provide safe blood to needy patients.
