Saffola Heart Foundation and Diabetes Speciality Clinic, Kale Hospital plans to conduct their 26th diabetes education programme and a lecture on a diabetes and heart disease on March 2, 2003 in Pune at Suyog Mangal Karyalaya.
Addressing media persons, Dr. Shailaja Kale said there are 16 per cent diabetics in the general population and the incidence of pre-diabetics is increasing. Pre-diabetic patients are those whose sugar is between 110-126 and two hours glucose count between 140-200 mg.
Dr. Kale, who is a research scientist at KEM Hospital's diabetic centre said, a diabetes prevention programme is also being conducted. Besides Pune, Bangalore and Chennai are the two places which conduct a diabetes prevention programme for pre-diabetic patients. Heart ailments are also severe in diabetics and there is a need to educate people about the dangers. Dr. C. S.Yajnik, Dr. Milind Gadkari and Dr. Dilip Kale are amongst the panelist who will speak on the occasion.
