Life Cell establishing five new stem cell centres in India

The Chennai based stem cell banking company Life Cell, is opening its five new centre in India before March 2007. Currently, the company operates 26 centres at different cities in India. The company is also expecting that, by the end of the March 2008 the total number of stem cell centres in India will move up to 50. The company did not disclose the investment.

Cord blood stem cells have the potential to cure over 75 diseases and stem cell therapy has been used in treating various diseases like Leukaemia, Thalassemia, Anaemia and other blood disorders. Stem cell therapy could be the most promising solution for conditions like Thalassemia, which is widely prevalent in the Middle East.

While speaking with Pharmabiz, Prasad Mangipudi, vice president marketing, Life Cell said "We are making our presence in India as well as in abroad also. By the end of the march 2008 we will establish our five centres abroad. We are also entering into Dubai-Bio-Tech Park, which will start operation in the beginning of the 2008.

Life Cell will soon open its stem cell transplant centre in Chennai. The centre will be set up in collaboration with Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (SRMC). The centre is specialised in the field of Haematology with the total investment of Rs 10 crore. Life Cell would be setting up similar transplant centres in Mumbai and Delhi in the coming year.

"We are also launching our one new product, which is expected to be available in the market within next 3-4 month. Our new expansion plan in India is expected to commence by the end of 2007." he further added.

LifeCell has a technology tie-up with CRYO-CELL International (CCI) USA, who are pioneers in the field of cord blood banking and is the worlds biggest cord blood bank. Currently, LifeCell has marketing and collection centres in, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurgoan, Indore, Jaipur, Noida, Lucknow, Ludhiyana, Bangalore, Calicut, Chennai, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Madhurai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Nagpur, Pune, and three places in Mumbai and now in Dubai.
