In the wake of the interrogation on the Rs. 300 crore drug scam, the Lok Ayukta of Karnataka has been receiving bomb hoax calls.

Security has been tightened at the Lok Ayukta office situated on the first floor of the MS Buildings here in Bangalore in view of the high threat perception to the office. A door frame metal detector has been installed at the entrance of the Lok Ayukta and visitors and officials were frisked by the police personnel.

The security arrangement comes in the backdrop of the multi crore drugs scam, which was recently unearthed by a team of investigational officers here on March 26, 2003. Some of the drugs department officials who are being interrogated have sought police protection.

Meanwhile Anand Rajashekar, the Drug Controller of the state has disappeared from the city and his whereabouts are not known.

Commenting on the security arrangements and bomb hoax calls in the Lok Ayukta office V Harikrishna, president, Bangalore District Druggists and Chemists Association said that he was not surprised at the threats. The drug trade stores have allegedly received similar persecution from the drugs control inspectors who harassed them for no reason when the retail and wholesaler outlets refused to pay the bribes demanded during the inspection rounds.
