Lupin Ltd. has received approval for generic lisinopril 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg tablets from the UK MHRA. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibiting drug used for treating hypertension and congestive heart failure.
Lupin's lisinopril tablets would be the generic equivalent of Merck's Prinivil tablets. Sales of Prinivil tablets in UK are close to USD 46 million as per IMS. Commercial shipments are planned shortly a Lupin press release stated.
"The MHRA approval of lisinopril tablets is our first oral generic product approval in UK. We are market leaders in this molecule in the US and we hope to emulate our success in Europe as well. This approval is the first of a series of approvals that we expect in UK and Europe in the next few months," said Dr Kamal Sharma, managing director, Lupin Ltd.
