Madras High Court has adjourned the case of Certificate of Pharmaceutical Products (CoPP), which was scheduled for hearing today, till December 7.
Government pleader G Sankaran said the state government has requested the court some more time to argue the case since it is a national issue. Justice K Venkitaraman, whose court the case came up for hearing, has posted it for next Monday for further hearing.
The case regarding the CoPP had initially come up for hearing on November 18 and had been postponed to November 25. But the lawyer of the writ petitioner (M Dilip Kumar, secretary of Tamil Nadu Drug Control Officers Association) had prayed for some more time on that day for the party to appear in the court that caused to move the case to December 2.
Regarding the issue, two more cases are pending with the high court of Madras. The Court had passed an interim stay order on October 13 restraining the implementation of the Drug Controller General of India’s circular dated 01.09.2009 informing all the State Drug Controllers that the WHO-GMP CoPP would be issued by his offices from October 1 this year. Challenging the order three parties have approached the court for stay orders and all of they have been granted stay by the Madras High Court.
