The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) recently raided the premises of Common Health Remedies, Vasai, for violating the provisions of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act 1954. On receiving tips from informants, Ramesh Kumar, commissioner, Maharashtra FDA, directed the officials to check the products of the company for the false claims made by it.

Officials found that the claims printed in the literature of the products manufactured by the company violate the provisions of Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. Stocks worth Rs 60,000 were seized during the raid.

"On basis of the information received, we raided the premises of the company. On investigation it was found that the claims made on the products violate the provisions of Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. The product claims to cure all the sexual disorders. As per the Act no product can make such an exaggerated claim," said the senior FDA official.

The Maharashtra FDA also issued a notice to a gem trader, who claims to cure and control the diseases like asthma, accident marks, arthritis, cancer, constipation, diabetes, insomnia, impotency etc through the power of gems.

"The dealer is not traceable, but we have seized the books and pamphlets, through which he advertises his products," said a FDA official.

The objectionable claim made on the literature of the product reads, 'Gems can provide permanent solution to asthma, accident marks, arthritis, cancer, constipation, diabetes, insomnia, impotency and many other diseases. The power of gems has bought many back from the deathbed.'
