Manipal Education and Medical Group India Pvt. Ltd. will shortly enter the global education market and offer its medical education expertise in several countries including the US. In the next three months, the Group is finalising its plans with universities in Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Malaysia. Talks with leading universities in the US are underway. The Group would also shortly have telemedicine hub in its campus at Sikkim where leading professors in medicine will be linked with the rural and inaccessible areas in the North East region to offer medical expertise.
At a press meet, Dr. Ramdas M Pai, president, Manipal Education and Medical Group said that global recognition is been sought in the wake of the WTO regime. “To realise this, the Group has inducted DA Prasanna, the erstwhile head of Wipro Health Science and Wipro GE Medical Systems who has joined as the executive chairman, Manipal Education and Medical Group India. His 15 years of exposure to the healthcare sector would give a fillip to Manipal Group's future activities,” he noted.
Three months back Manipal entered into global clinical service and is offering teleradiology service to Massachusetts General Hospital where Wipro helps transporting images from the US to Manipal to read the images and provide the diagnosis. Manipal has already been offering telemedicine service to Tumkur medical centres and has chalked out plans to extend the service to others parts in the State and Goa. “Our capability lies in the medical education and through our panel of professors in the different branches of medicine, we will offer medical expertise to the entire North East region with from Sikkim, informed Prasanna.
Manipal's efforts in education has also led to earning foreign exchange earnings to the tune of Rs.14 million in 2002 through the foreign students and their families, informed Dr. Pai.
