The Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Centre (MCCC), the erstwhile department of oncology of Manipal Hospital, has set up a modern bone marrow transplant (BMT) facility with an investment of over Rs 1 crore.
The Centre now comprises of medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, haematology-oncology, paediatric oncology and Gynec-Oncology along with pain and palliative medicine.
It also conducts a comprehensive bone marrow transplant which includes autologous, allogenic and mini-allo transplants for leukaemia, lymphomas etc. Hospital sources claim it as the most advanced facility in India using a modern technique to collect, enumerate cryofreeze and transplant the stem cell required for bone marrow and peripheral stem cell transplant.
The radiation oncology department in the hospital is currently the only one in the country to have Gammamed plus High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy unit and an Eclipse CX 3D radiation treatment planning system.
The new facility, which is equipped with a host of novel Radio Therapy Services, has specialised equipment including Cabespectra 7.0 cell separator and Cryomed deep freezer.
