Mankind Pharma to focus on nutraceuticals business and healthcare OTC

Mankind Pharma, One of India’s leading pharmaceutical company is planning to grow its business with a renewed focus on its Nutraceuticals business, Healthcare OTC and exports to new international markets. Having already established itself in Srilanka, Cambodia & East Africa, the company now plans to offer its products in South, West and North Africa and also Asian countries. The company plans to earn Rs. 3,500 crore growth in fiscal year 2015-2016 with this new business strategy.

Mankind Pharma, which manufactures other OTC products like Adiction deodorants and Manforce condoms, is focussing on the development of nutraceutical products. As there is a rise in cardiac diseases, diabetes and respiratory problems in the global scenario, Mankind Pharma’s strategy fits best in serving a protection against such chronic ailments.

R.C.Juneja, chief executive and chairman of Mankind Pharma, highlighting the benefits of nutraceutical drugs said, “To our pipeline of chronic cardiovascular diseases and diabetic management (drugs), we are adding nutraceuticals, which we will increase from Rs. 300 crore to Rs. 500 crore by the end of this year. We are working on drug development and new delivery systems in our research and development facility. It’s certainly convenient to pop a pill that has the health benefits of a particular food, without the potential of any drawbacks.”

“We are going to set up an active pharmaceutical ingredients unit at Udaipur, Rajasthan in coming next five years. By 2015-16, we plan to launch 100 products and hire 1,000 people, which will make our total number (workforce) reach 10,000. We invest Rs. 200-300 crore each year to grow our business,”R.C.Juneja said.

The company started with affordable drugs sold in small towns and villages, later expanding its network across the country. In 2007, Mankind launched its OTC brands centred on sexual health such as Manforce condoms, emergency contraceptive Unwanted 72 and pregnancy test kit Prega News, which bring eight per cent  of overall revenue.
