MCI to install faculty identification, tracking and monitoring system for medical colleges

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved a proposal for the faculty identification, tracking and monitoring system comprising of software controller and biometric card reader for all the medical colleges/institutions in India. With this approval now, all the medical colleges and institutes in India will soon have faculty identification, tracking and monitoring system comprising of software, controller and biometric card reader. Rasilant Technologies, Mumbai has been appointed as the vendor for providing this services to the medical colleges.

An officer from the MCI's office informed that the MCI has already written to the director of Rasilant Technologies, health secretaries of all the States, director of medical education of all the States and registrar of all the universities in this regard.

The MCI's new initiative is to ensure regular attendance of faculty in medical colleges. Under the new faculty identification, tracking and monitoring system, teachers will be issued with smart cards whereas reader machines will be installed at the medical colleges. The installation of the system shall be carried out by Rasilant Technologies upon scheduling with the college authorities. The unit that will be installed in the colleges shall remain as the property of the council and will be covered under warranty for all manufacturing defects and faults for one year from the date of installation. The council will be bearing the annual maintenance costs for the unit.

Each smart card readers cost Rs 60,000 and will be installed in all medical colleges, and will be linked to MCI’s central server which will be installed in the Delhi office. The letter states that if there is any damage to the unit after installation and handover to the college authorities leading to its non operation then the responsible college will have to pay penalty of up to two lakh. The responsibility lies with the colleges to notify to the concerned authority about the problems or any fault in the unit within three days for assessment of the same.
