MedGenome highlights importance of genomics in assessment and treatment of neurological diseases
MedGenome highlighted the importance of genomics to be used for assessment and treatment of neurological diseases at St. Johns Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru.
At a round table meeting with doctors in the neurology department at St. Johns Medical Hospital, a panel of neurologists discussed about genomics being an enabler in their clinical practice for conditions like DMD, Leigh Syndrome, Juvenile Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy.
“Genomics can enable the next level of medicine in the clinical setting,” said Dr Thomas Mathew, HOD, Department of Neurology, St. John’s Medical College Hospital adding that targeted genetic testing in Indian patients has a potential to reduce the overall cost to the patient with more accurate diagnosis and management.
Various applications of genomics were also discussed such as pharmacogenomics to understand the efficacy of a drug in an individual patient, identifying root cause of complex diseases running in families and more definite diagnosis for common diseases where the underlying genetic causes are known.
“Our focus is to collaborate with doctors to make genetic testing available for our patients. We offer comprehensive, validated and most advanced tests to the clinicians and hospitals to make a visible impact on patient’s lives,” Sam Santhosh, CEO MedGenome.
