MHRA nod to Strides Arcolab's sterile site in Bangalore

In a major boost to its European market strategy, Strides Arcolab has received approval from Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), UK for its manufacturing site in Bangalore for sterile products (non-penicillin and non-cephalosporins). It has been qualified as it complies with the principles and guidelines of good manufacturing practices as laid down in Commission Directive 2003/94/EC.

Arun Kumar, vice chairman and managing director of Strides Arcolab stated that, "The MHRA approval for the sterile products division, Bangalore is an important milestone in the company's European market strategy. The facility has also received approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia, Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate, Canada and Anvisa, Brazil".

Strides, listed both on the Bombay Stock Exchange (532531) and National Stock Exchange, is one of India's largest exporters of branded generic pharmaceutical products. Strides manufactures pharmaceuticals formulations in various dosage forms, including capsules, tablets, liquid injectables and is one of the world's top five manufacturers of soft gel capsules.

Strides, which has the only globally dedicated soft gel facility for hormones, undertakes contract research and the manufacturing of specialty chemicals for various multinational companies. Strides has a major presence in various developing countries such as Africa, Latin America and Asia as well as in developed markets such as the US, Canada and part of Europe. It is one of the largest Indian suppliers of institutionally funded aid projects and is an approved supplier to the World Bank, the African Development Bank and UNICEF, amongst others.

Strides has 14 manufacturing plants spread across the US, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Poland, Singapore and India. These broad manufacturing network facilities are in partnership with global organizations ranging from UNICEF and WHO-Global Drug Facility to European and American pharmaceutical multinationals and also private labellers and distribution chains.

Strides has product registrations in over 37 countries around the world and has earned ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and GMP accreditations including US FDA. Strides employ approximately 1,700 people across the globe.
