Micro Group wins IDMA award for quality excellence, plans entry into European markets

The Rs. 300 crore Micro Group bagged the IDMA award for its quality excellence among the category of companies having annual turnovers above Rs. 50 crore. The company's Hosur plant was inspected by a panel of judges from IDMA who adjudged the facility as one among the most modern, sophisticated units that complied with GMP [good manufacturing practices] and WHO [World Health Organisation] requirements apart from adhering to regulations of the Europe and US. In addition, the plant follows well-documented and implemented quality control procedures, S M Mudda, executive vice president, Micro Group told Pharmabiz.com.

The total investment of the Hosur facility was Rs. 20 crore for plant and machinery. The facility is used to manufacture tablets, capsules, ointments and liquids, informed Mudda.

Micro Labs is known to be the state's leading pharma company manufacturing a range of potential products in key growth areas of cardiovascular [Amlong, a Rs. 12 crore brand], anxiolytic [Anxit, a Rs. 7 crore product], diabetics [Dianorm-M, Rs. 7 crore; Dibizide-M, Rs.5 crore; Diapride, Rs. 2 crore], liver protector [Silyban, a brand leader], antibiotics [Azilide, Gramocef, Bicef and Sparmax], NSAID [Rofica], dermatology [Glyco-A] and ophthalmology [Microflox-DX].

Among the pharma companies in Karnataka, Micro Labs ranks second in performance. According to IMS, Micro is ranked 18 in the country. ORG positions Micro at 22 in India with a growth rate of 26.6 per cent. The company has been able to clock a turnover of Rs. 300 crore and maintains a growth rate of 16.2 per cent as against the growth rate of the total pharmaceutical sector in the country, which stands at 14 per cent.

In view of the long term potential of Micro Group to be a successful company, it is going for a massive plant expansion. By next year, two plants- one at Bommasandra and the other at Veerasandra in the outskirts of Bangalore are expected to be commissioned. Both the plants are being set up at an investment of Rs. 25 crore. There is an additional unit in the present Hosur plant being set-up, which adheres to UK MCA standards. Products manufactured here will be exported to UK and Europe, informed G Jayaraj, general manager - products, Micro Labs.
